Ayurvedic Body Treatments
Information Updated on Nourish Ayurveda and Yoga Website.
An Ayurveda Body Treatment not only nourishes the skin, it is a massage of your internal body systems and organs, it is a journey we go on together to allow channels to open up and healing to begin or flourish. A lot of time is spent on the head, and feet. Depending on what you present with, more time could be spent on the stomach for nourishing digestion.
Through individually chosen oil blends, herbed infused oils (Abhyanga) or soft dry herb application (Udvartana) to the body, wonderful healing benefits can occur. These treatments are both therapeutic and clinical.
The skin is a seven-level outer organ which has a continuous relationship with the inner skins or linings of the gastro-intestinal tract and internal organs. All substances applied to the outer skin also affect the inner skins due to their functional integration. Oils blends and herbs are chosen for your specific needs to assist with your healing journey.
Abhyanga – Warm Healing Oil Massage
Nourishing
A balancing massage with an individually chosen oil blend to support therapeutic healing. Warm oil is applied to the whole body, including the head, feet and abdomen.
This therapy includes application of an abundant amount of warm oil throughout the body, marma or energy points therapy, aspects of cranial sacral therapy, reflexology, pelvic and spine alignment and movements that respect the physiology of digestion, assimilation and elimination. Optional Karna Purana (warm oil poured in the ears) and Nasya (herbed oil in the nose) treatments.
Udvartana – Soft Dry Herb Massage
Invigorating and Rejuvenative
It is a stimulating, nourishing action as the herbal substances enter the pores to assimilate into the deep tissues. It is detoxifying, rejuvenating and invigorating. The substances are chosen for their individual suitability to you and can be blended to suit your unique needs.
Shirodhara – Stream of warm healing oil to the head and frontal lobe (Coming Fall/Winter 2018)
Mindstream Therapy
Said to be one of the greatest gifts of Ayurveda. A profound effect on the nervous systems to help calm the mind and relax the body. As you lie face up, a steady stream of warm oil is administered to the forehead and frontal lobe, running through your hair. After 20 minutes or so, the level of consciousness goes deeper into the inner planes of personal experience into universal consciousness. Feeling of contentment, insight, calm and connection ensue.
Head, Feet and Knee or Just Head and Feet
Shiro Abyanga (Head and Neck), Pada Abhyanga (Ayurvedic Reflexology), Janu Abhyanga (Knee Massage with Cross Marma Therapy)
Marmani Points
Similar to acu-pressure points using finger pressure and massage. Marmans are vital energy points located where muscles, veins, ligaments, tendons, bones or joints intersect.
Marmani serves as a bridge or doorway between the Body, Mind and Soul. At marman sites, toxins, stress and negative emotions get lodged and are held sometimes for years. Relieving pain, blockage or swelling at marman sites is an important therapeutic aid for the mind and body.
Karna Purana – Ear Oiling
Individually chosen oil blend is poured in the ear to sit for 5-10 minutes as the head and neck is worked on during the treatment (longer time optional). The ear lobe and surrounding area is massaged. A feeling of being “back in the womb” is often experienced as outer sounds are dampened and focus can be placed on the internal sounds of the breath. Karna Purana nourishes all five sense organs and can help with many ear related issues, headaches, insomnia, and TMJ.
Nasya – Nose oiling
It is said that the nose is the direct route to the brain and also the doorway to consciousness. Cleansing the nostrils is the way to maintain mental clarity, memory, balance and can also help with congestion, allergies, and other nose related issues.
Oil infused with a subtle blend of herbs is applied to the nose with a dropper – 3 to 5 drops in each nostril. The oil blend chosen is individual to your needs at the time.
